This past weekend Shawn and I had the opportunity to test on the new Achilles Radial ATR Sport 2 tire. The results……amazing.
I started off with a pair of tires that had only 25 % left in them. Even though the tires were almost bald I was warned by Bryan Bridges and Robbie Nishida of Bridges Racing to “Air them up because the grip level is crazy” Taking advice from the pros I inflated the tires to 55psi which is double what I normally run in any other brand. I hadn’t used the tire before competition so I thought it would be best to rip a huge burnout and then slide the infield to feel them out, they felt GOOD! Entering comp time , even with 350whp and 55psi in the tires the grip was still so impressive that it was pushing me to the bottom of the 5/8ths bank.
Sunday Funday would be the true test for these tires, lots of track time, all tandem and a long course would put them through there paces. As the tires wore throughout the day the grip level did not drop. After every session I would go check the tires and they would just get smoother and smoother, but the grip was still there. I told myself i wouldn’t change the tires the until the grip faded, I probably did 25 laps and didn’t change tires all day. The grip is crazy, the smoke is crazy, and these will not chunk. One set of 25% tires lasted me a huge opening ceremony burnout, 2 runs on the 5/8ths and a whole day of tandem fun with my bros. These are without a doubt the best tires i have ever run.
If you are after an affordable tire, that has the grip level of a super expensive R comp, but will last you FOREVER this is the tire for you. If its good enough for Daigo Saito its good enough for me!

When everything works, magic happens. First event of the year all 3 cars have finished, Gaelen Norman somehow managed to drift all day long, and take some amazing photos at the same time. Thanks to everyone that came out to drive, spectate or volunteer.

So this was the busiest week of the year for us. Two of the three cars were torn to bits, Logan’s car wasn’t running, and we had an event to run on Sunday. On Thursday night Steve’s car looked like this

I managed to get the car put together and left for a 5 hour drive to Shawn and Logan’s home town by 6 am on saturday morning.
I arrived in Kelowna to find Logans car up on stands and ready to paint. Unfortunately Logan had got something stuck in his eye and had to go to hospital to get a needle stuck in not one, but both of his eyes.

While Logan was at the hospital Shawn an I prepped his car and got it paint ready also
We got all the cars painted by 11.30 that night, after getting up at 7 the next morning we made the scenic drive to the track

Once at the track we unloaded for a few test, shakedown laps before the 31 other signed up drivers arrived. With 4 laps completed between 3 cars we had 2 of them broken already. Logan’s car had torn his subframe, snapped an arm and punctured his gas tank and Shawn had blown 3rd gear,

But after 4 long days, with very little sleep, it was time to get crazy and get on some doors. There is nothing more satisfying then awesome tandems on a warm summers day. No matter how hard the road is and how little we sleep, remember why we do this. Because its what we love.

With a little time between events and the cars coming together nicely, it was time to do something different.
